About the Artist

Hello, my name is Shane Martindale. I live in the Thumb of Michigan. My love for the outdoors started at an early age. Growing up in a rural community, it just seemed natural to be in the outdoors. Whether I was fishing the local river, hunting area state land, or just out for a walk in the woods, I was always taking in what mother nature had to offer. Another interest that started at an early age was my love of art. If I wasn't out enjoying nature, I was trying to capture it on paper.
After graduation, I went to work in a local automotive stamping plant where I became a tool and die journeyman. I worked as a tool and die maker for 10 years but after the third plant closed on me, I figured it was time to find another line of work. I decided to combine my love for the outdoors and my love of art. So, in 2010, I attended The Colorado Institute of Taxidermy.
In 2011, I opened my shop – Breath of Life Taxidermy. My goal is the give my clients the most accurate representation of their specimen. In order to achieve this, I am continually attending seminars and competing in taxidermy competitions to hone my skills because as my instructor said “Until you can make it breath, bleed or breed, you are not done learning! “
